Clannamore

For Your Wedding

Celtic and American Traditional Music

Clannamore is a lively duo featuring Alanna Berger (hammered dulcimer) and Blaise Liffick (guitar, pennywhistle, octave mandolin, bodhran). Our repertoire draws heavily from the Celtic culture (Ireland, Scotland, and the British Isles) and traditional American music, ranging from the pre-Renaissance era to the modern. The sweet tone of the hammered dulcimer (a trapezoidal stringed instrument that is played with hammers, and sounds something like a cross between a harp and a harpsichord) is balanced by the steady rhythm or finger picking of guitar or the haunting sound of a pennywhistle.

For music before and during the ceremony, our favorite composer is Turlough O'Carolan (1670 - 1738), a blind Irish harper who composed over 200 of the most beautiful melodies Ireland ever produced. An example of his beautiful compositions is Carolan's Welcome (MP3 or Real Audio). A favorite tune for meditation or as an interlude during the service is the haunting Isles (MP3 or Real Audio). We also have a large repertoire of captivating waltzes, such as Southwind or the Skye Boat Song, or truly ancient tunes such as the haunting Return from Fingall, reported to have been written in about 1014 as a final tribute to the greatest king Ireland ever knew! For processional and recessional, tunes such as Banish Misfortune (MP3 or Real Audio), Haste to the Wedding (MP3 or Real Audio), or The Flowers of Edinburgh (MP3 or Real Audio) are excellent choices both because of their lively nature and because of their meaningful names.

For reception music, we have a wide assortment of instrumental tunes. Jigs, reels, hornpipes, and marches are combined with lyrical airs, laments, and waltzes, to form a warm and spirited sound. We also can perform lively ballads to thoroughly entertain your guests.
